The annual dues are rarely the whole budget. A NYC private club may charge a one-time joining fee, recurring dues and spending billed separately. Monthly billing can also sit inside an annual commitment.

The examples below use publicly listed rates checked on 6 October 2026. They are selected tiers, not a complete market survey. The first-year arithmetic adds initiation to twelve months of dues; it excludes tax, food and drink, minimum spending and any other charges not established in the cited rate.

Compare the same kind of access

Two rates are not comparable if one includes a fitness facility and the other only social rooms. Moss’s Upstairs tier, for example, excludes Bedrock. A local membership may also differ from an out-of-town or multi-location plan. Check the actual privileges before treating a smaller number as better value.

Published prices and reported prices are different

Our profiles label prices taken from official pages separately from dated press reporting. A figure in an older article may describe a founding offer, a former tier or a price that has since changed. Some clubs keep current fees private. In those cases, a written quote is more useful than a confident estimate.

Ask for the full cost in writing

Request initiation, recurring dues, applicable taxes, any food-and-beverage minimum, guest charges, booking fees and optional services. Ask when payment starts, whether dues are refundable, how cancellation works and what happens at renewal. These are questions to ask, not charges we assume every club levies.

Keep the membership budget separate from the money you expect to spend inside. Then estimate how often you would visit. Dividing the fixed annual charges by a realistic number of visits can help you compare options, although it cannot capture the social or practical value of the place.

If you qualify for a younger-member tier, compare its cutoff and renewal conditions too. A lower first-year bill does not necessarily mean the same rate next year.
